There are a lot of different types of ships used in the 1600s. here are a few of the ships used in England,France,Spain, and Portugal....................

These few ships had an influence in their time. they were used for sailing, expeditions, importing and exporting goods, and in searches.

This next picture explains the parts of a ship........

In this image there are various parts of the ship show on the ship. I will explain each of thise parts and what they do,in alphabetical order..

1.-Bowsprit-is a spar projecting from the upper end of the bow of a sailing vessel, for holding the tacks of various jibs or stays and often supporting a jib boom.

2.-Captains cabin-is basically where the captain hangs out and does his work.

3.-Chains-its like that thing that hold the anchor and is attached to the anchor. its the chain i guess.

4.-Figurehead-its like the person thingy on the front of the boat...(but its a statue) like in peter pan i think. thats like the only example i can think of...

5.-Fo'c'sle -i guess from the definition its the place where the crew is housed...or where they sleep and stuff.

6.-foremast-its like the mast nearest to the bow in vessels.....whatever that means..

7.- forepeak-ill shorten it up for ya.....its basically somewhat used for storage or cargo.

8.-gunport-well...by the looks of it...i think its where those big canon things are..like the place they shoot out of.

9.-hull-is like basically the body of the ship i guess...or the frame..

10.-Jibboom-its a spar that extends the bowsprtin..umm i have no idea what that means so i dont know wat to tell ya.

11.-Keel-The principal structural member of a ship, running lengthwise along the center line from bow to stern, to which the frames are attached......um yeah i dont know what that one means either..

12.-Main mast-they didnt give me the definition.. but im guessing its like the other mast things like the ones on the long poles..but its the biggest on..that might be why they call it the main one..

13.-Mizzen-A fore-and-aft sail set on the mizzenmast..well im guessing its a sail or something along the lines of that..

14.-Quarterdeck-The after part of the upper deck of a ship, usually reserved for officers..thats like a trick riddle right there...but yeah it has something to do with the upper deck of the ship.

15.-Rudder-the definition is like long...so basically its some kind of metal at the back end of a ship directing the ships course.

16.-Shrouds-its those long stringy things that go up to the box on the pole...like umm those people in the Pirates of the caribbean climbed up them when they were fighting...

but yeah that about all i have with ships.
